Our First Room at Fibre House Kampot Is Ready

Welcome to Fiber House in Kampot, the new neighborhood. The speaker is filming in front of their new guesthouse, wetting down the driveway for a better visual on camera, a trick often used in cinematography. They recount working on a Martin Scorsese film where streets were wet down in freezing winter conditions to simulate summer. The team has been painting one of the bedrooms all day, and their first guest has arrived and helped with the painting. Internet service is currently Metfone, offering 50 megabytes per second, as a temporary solution until their 350 megabytes per second Sinet service from Phnom Penh can be moved after the Khmer New Year on April 15th. The long-term plan for redundancy includes Sinet fiber optic and a Starlink satellite dish. The speaker mentions a method of using Starlink in Cambodia by registering it in California and flying it in, despite the potential legal gray area. They also show some raw, odds and ends of live edge wood from a furniture maker, which they've used to make a lampshade and plan to use for sun shades on the veranda. The existing light fixture, a 6500 Kelvin daylight, was replaced with warmer tubes, temporarily held by zip ties. The guest, who flew in from Bangkok to Phnom Penh and then took a bus to Kampot, is experiencing Cambodia for the first time and seems to be having a good time. The bathroom has also been painted, and a comforter sheet set has been acquired for the guest. Future plans include getting a desk and task chair for the guest, along with a Moleskine notebook and a plant as an arrival gift.
