The misuse of AI, particularly through deepfake technology, is causing significant harm to individuals and businesses, with sophisticated scams targeting even high-profile executives and costing hundreds of millions. This technology, which can generate realistic images, voices, and personalities, lacks values, ethics, and a moral compass, simply reflecting what it's given. The problem is escalating, with deepfake files projected to reach 8 million by 2025, a 1,500% increase in two years. People are poor at identifying AI-generated content, with less than 1% correctly identifying deepfakes in tests. The issue isn't AI being out of control, but rather how humans choose to use it—as a weapon. While AI offers immense benefits in medicine, education, accessibility, and research, the same technology can undermine trust and fuel scams. The critical question isn't what AI can do, but what kind of humans we will be in a world where we can create anything, even lies. Our future will be shaped by the integrity and responsible choices of those who use AI.
