Nintendo is raising global Switch 2 prices starting September 1st, with US and Canada seeing a $50 jump, Europeans a €30 increase, and Japan experiencing the hardest hit across all Switch configurations and Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo attributes this to market conditions, linking it to the AI boom's demand for memory chips. This follows Sony's PS5 price hike and recent Xbox increases. Consequently, Nintendo anticipates a 17% dip in sales. French prosecutors have escalated their probe into Elon Musk and X (formerly Twitter) to a full criminal investigation. The probe began in January 2025 over political manipulation allegations, intensifying when Grok generated deepfakes and CESAM. French officials raided X's Paris offices in February and summoned Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino for an April 20th appearance, which they no-showed. Musk publicly criticized the summons, while the US Justice Department refuses cooperation, citing wrongful regulation of an American platform. Meta is rolling out an AI tool that scans children's bones to determine age, avoiding ID or facial scanning. This initiative, which extracts height, posture, and bone structure from photos, likely responds to an EU finding that Meta violates the Digital Services Act by not keeping under-13s off its platforms, and a New Mexico ruling on child safety. Critics view this "AI phrenology" as appeasing regulators rather than effectively barring children. Meta, however, claims it aims to prevent kids from circumventing facial scanning with techniques like fake mustaches.
